HURRICANCE IKE OPERATIONAL UPDATE

Thursday, October 9, 2008

American National Insurance Company and its subsidiaries, Garden State Life Insurance Company, Standard Life and Accident Insurance Company and American National Life Insurance Company of Texas, are quickly returning operations to normal.  Close to a third of our employees have already returned to work in the Home Office building in Galveston.  By the end of this week all employees will have returned to work either in Galveston or our League City offices.  As a result, this will be the last operational update that will be posted.

We want to thank everyone for their support, patience and well wishes.  We are proud of the tremendous effort put forth by our employees in the wake of Hurricane Ike.

HURRICANCE IKE OPERATIONAL UPDATE

Monday, September 29, 2008

American National Insurance Company and its subsidiaries, Garden State Life Insurance Company, Standard Life and Accident Insurance Company and American National Life Insurance Company of Texas, continue to operate under our business continuity plan out of the League City and San Antonio offices.  While we are still having some challenges with the forwarded mail, the US Postal Service has been working closely with us to get this resolved.

The good news is that on Wednesday of this week, our Galveston Home Office will be ready to accept some operational employees to prepare it for occupancy on Monday, October 6th.  This is an important step to regain full operational status and enable the return of employees who have been temporarily working out of the San Antonio office.

HURRICANE IKE OPERATIONAL UPDATE

Wednesday, September 24, 2008

American National Insurance Company and its subsidiaries, Garden State Life Insurance Company, Standard Life and Accident Insurance Company and American National Life Insurance Company of Texas continue to operate under our business continuity plan.  One of the biggest challenges we are encountering is getting mail forwarded by the US Postal Service.  They are working hard to sort through all of the Galveston mail to find our mail for forwarding.  Forwarded mail is arriving at our San Antonio and League City offices, but not at required levels as of today.  As a result, we hope all of our customers will continue to be patient as we work with the Postal Service through this latest challenge.

Crews are continuing to work on preparing the Galveston Home Office for reopening.  City services are gradually being restored in Galveston.  While we still do not have an exact date for reopening, it will be soon.  We do have access to the building and have teams retrieving important items from the building daily as needed for the operational areas.

HURRICANE IKE OPERATIONAL UPDATE

 Tuesday, September 16, 2008

While the Galveston area, and, in particular, the City of Galveston, was hard hit by Hurricane Ike, American National Insurance Company operations are open in the League City and San Antonio offices.  While our disaster recovery plan is being implemented, there will be some temporary limited operations in the life, annuity and health areas as staff is being relocated.

Our initial assessment of our home office building in Galveston indicates minimal damage and its reopening will be primarily dependent on the restoration of basic services, such as power, gas and other utilities, by the City of Galveston.  We are monitoring this closely with city and power company officials so we can be ready to reopen as quickly as possible.  In the meantime, staff is being relocated to our League City and San Antonio properties while our home office is closed.

Throughout this entire event, all computer operations and systems continued without any interruptions in our state of the art computer facility in League City, Texas built to handle such events.

We ask our customers, both policyholders and agents, to please be patient with some temporary reduced service levels, as our staff is relocated.  We will provide further updates on our progress with our business continuity plan execution on our website at slaico.com.
